Introduction
Jones Antique Lighting – specialist dealers in decorative antique lighting since 1979 in the United Kingdom. They provide a wide range of house interior and exterior lighting products that are unique and custom developed.
Their site https://www.jonesantiquelighting.com is the web front store to reach customers beyond the local base. The site is primarily developed using the WordPress (Woocommerce) and “Storefront Theme” with a variety of custom features either integrated using the 3rd party plugins or custom developed by us.
The website is been hosted and managed by us on a Linux based cloud platform with CDN network-enabled and managed.
Challenges, Solutions & Approach
As each product is unique and custom-designed by Jones Antique Lighting, we needed to set up the woocommerce in such a way that once the product is sold, the product isn’t available for another purchase and it goes offline even for the search engines to track it.
Here are some of the key challenges we faced with the development and customization of the woocommerce based website Jones Antique Lighting.
Customized Design Layout
Even though we used the “Storefront Theme” (Default e-commerce theme provided by Woocommerce/Wordpress Team), We created a child theme to make the site future upgrade proof and customized the whole default design & layout for all major devices ( Desktop, Laptop, Tablet, and Mobile).
Taking the minimalist approach towards the look and feel suggested by the customer, we used the black and white color scheme.
Custom Shipping Methods & Zones
The shipping in each country has a complex rating and delivery system based on the volume and size of the parcel, the same is the case for “Jones Antique Lighting”.
We have created multiple shipping zones, based on the postcodes, some included restrictions, some included different table rate shipping and some included different flat rates. For each shipping zone, there are different sets of the flat rate, table rate or free shipping.
One of the major challenges in implementing this solution was, some postcodes have both the “Free Shipping” and “Flat Rate”. We customized the system to show “Free Shipping” if both options are available.
Product Types & Relation
As though woocommerce does provide a list of product types to be defined, “Jones Antique Lighting” uses grouped products, bundled products, and simple products with the relationship on related products, up-sell and cross-sell products.
Social (Instagram) Integration.
There are loads of integrations and customizations been done on the site for flawless order placement to order fulfillment, marketing approach, accessibility, usability, search engine optimization and more. Here are some quick points to note.
